For more than 40 years, the Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE) has been helping teachers, administrators and support staff at all levels, from preschool to post-graduate, get the insurance protection their families need.
We offer discounts and member-only rates on insurance plans from leading companies such as New York Life Insurance Company, GEICO, and MetLife, to name a few. Many policies are specially designed to meet the needs of educators.
These insurance plans are available exclusively to the members and staff of more than 60 professional associations that participate in the Trust for Insuring Educators, the second-largest consortium of educators in the U.S.
Overview of Products¹
Term Life Insurance
TIE now offers three life insurance options from industry leader New York Life Insurance Company:
- A traditional group term life policy, annually renewable to age 80, with competitive rates in 5-year age bands; up to $1 million in protection available for member and spouse, and lesser amounts for dependent children
- A 10-year-level group term life policy with guaranteed rates for the first 10 years; up to $1 million in protection available for member and spouse, and lesser amounts for dependent children
- A group accidental death and dismemberment policy that provides up to $300,000 in protection for the member and proportional coverage for spouse and dependent children
Disability Insurance
TIE’s Disability Income Protection Insurance from New York Life provides income when you’re not working due to a disability. You can choose how soon payments begin—30, 60, 90 or 180 days—and how long they last—5 years or to age 65—as well as your monthly benefit, up to $5,000.
Professional Liability Insurance
The nation’s largest, independent professional liability program for educators is exclusively for TIE members. Specialized plans are available for:
- Teachers, administrators and school staff who are W2 employees
- Educators who are independent contractors or in private practice
- School psychologists and school counselors
- Student teachers
Rates start as low as $108 per year for $1 million of liability protection for W2 employed educators.
Auto & Home Insurance
TIE members receive an additional discount in most states off GEICO’s regular rates for auto insurance. TIE also offers the following property protection through GEICO:
- Homeowners/renters/condo/co-op insurance
- Umbrella liability insurance
- Motorcycle insurance
- Boat / watercraft insurance
Health Insurance
TIE now offers a selection of competitively priced health insurance plans for individuals and small groups through eHealth, a one-stop marketplace. Get a free quote on plans from Aetna, Humana, Kaiser Permanente, Cigna, United Healthcare and others.
TIE also offers:
- Dental insurance and vision insurance through MetLife

Other Protection Plans
Members can save up to 20% on LegalShield’s legal services plan or LegalShield’s identity theft protection plan, which features a $5 million service guarantee.
