Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) Explained: What You Can Change

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period is the one time each year most seniors can make changes to their coverage.

AEP runs from October 15 to December 7

During this time, you can:

  • Switch Medicare Advantage plans

  • Return to Original Medicare

  • Add or change a prescription drug plan

  • Enroll in Medicare Advantage for the first time

Changes made during AEP take effect January 1.

Missing AEP can mean staying in a plan that no longer fits—sometimes for the entire year.

AEP is your opportunity to stay informed, prepared, and protected.
