ProDefender represents the nation's largest independent professional liability insurance program for educators, with more than 90,000 school employees insured.
The program was launched nearly 40 years ago by Forrest T. Jones & Company (FTJ), ProDefender's parent, to provide protection against costly legal claims and personnel actions for educators not represented by a labor union. Coverage is underwritten through Trisura Specialty Insurance Company, which is rated A- (Excellent) by A.M. Best, one of the leading independent financial ratings companies.
The program features multiple insurance plans that protect a wide array of education professionals:
- Teachers, administrators, and various school staff who are W-2 employees, independent contractors, private practitioners, and student teachers;
- In pre-school through post-secondary settings, plus those active in adult / continuing / alternative education programs;
- In public and private institutions;
- Providing instruction or service online or in person.
Premiums begin as low as $108 per year for $1 million in liability protection for W-2 employed educators. Private practice / independent contractor rates start at $203 per year. Discounted rates available for students.
