Member Insurance Programs

FTJ is a proven leader in developing, marketing, and administering association-sponsored insurance programs. We focus the quality, stability, and competitiveness of member benefits while ensuring customer service excellence that meets both association and member needs.

How Can We Help You?

Take your program to the next level

Large or small, FTJ serves them all — from large-scale member programs with a dozen or more plans covering every category of personal insurance to groups seeking single, specialized coverage for their members.

Today, we manage more than 80 association member insurance programs, including the industry's largest multi-association trust, with more than 60 national education associations and one million members.

Our decades of association experience, in-house marketing expertise, and full-service insurance administration are capabilities unmatched by any other broker / administrator serving the association/affinity market. Other differentiators include:

  • Knowledgeable customer service agents working exclusively from our Kansas City, Missouri, headquarters
  • Personalized account management
  • Detail financial reporting and marketing results

While other large brokers serving associations and affinity groups have sold out to private equity firms in recent years, FTJ remains true to its roots as a private, family-owned and family-run business — and our third-generation leaders are committed to the association insurance model. We are active in acquiring existing insurance programs via takeover and in developing new programs if the circumstances make sense.

FTJ develops and/or manages the following types of member insurance programs:

  • Non contributory programs, where insurance plans are offered to members at the lowest possible rates and the association sponsor does not derive revenue from insurance sales.
  • Contributory or royalty programs where the sponsoring association derives either a fixed fee or percentage compensation from the program's premium income.
  • A combination of the two forms above, where some products involve a royalty or fixed payment and others do not.

FTJ partners with the nation’s leading insurance companies, names like New York Life Insurance Company, Farmers Insurance, MetLife, and Aflac, to offer top-quality insurance products, often with special rates or benefits exclusively for members. Among the insurance products available are:

  • Guaranteed acceptance and underwritten term life and whole life insurance plans
  • Disability income insurance, accident insurance, and accidental death & dismemberment insurance
  • Supplemental health plans including dental, vision, cancer, hospital indemnity, and critical illness
  • Individual and group health insurance, and international travel medical insurance
  • Medicare Advantage, Medicare supplement plans, and long-term care insurance
  • Prepaid legal services plans, identity theft protection, and identity restoration services
  • Auto and motorcycle insurance, homeowners / renters insurance, disaster insurance, and pet insurance
  • Professional liability insurance, general liability insurance, property insurance, and cyber insurance

In-dues member insurance benefits

So-called "in-dues" member insurance involves insurance protection for which the premium is paid by a sponsoring association on behalf of its members and promoted as a benefit of membership.

These programs can provide significant advantages to both members and their association:

  • Members receive what may be perceived as "free insurance" or discounted insurance.
  • The association pays a significantly lower group insurance rate than the member could achieve on an individual policy.
  • The benefits of in-dues policies can be tailored to the needs of the association's members and may be superior to the benefits a member could find in an individual policy.
  • Members are motivated to maintain their membership to retain their insurance coverage.

The in-dues insurance benefit can be provided to all members or to any sizeable subset of members, such as a Premium Membership category or all members who are full-time employees.

When implementing an in-dues program, associations often can increase dues more than the cost of the insurance  yet less than the member would pay to acquire comparable insurance as an individual — a win-win for both parties.

The most common types of in-dues insurance are: professional liability insurance, term life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment insurance, and identity theft protection.
